Lore
That night still burns brightly in the recesses of my mind. A particularly cold one- the kind that
the tips of your ears would start hurting if you stayed out too long, and your breath would hang
like a cloud in the air in front of you. The Moon was dark in the sky that day, only a faint outline
visible - of course, The Hound glowed in its eerie red hue as it always did. I was up later than
usual that night. My thoughts had been racing more than usual, though this seemed to always
happen on dark nights. My mother always told me it was because of my relationship to
Dalamud - that when he alone lit the sky my connection to him would be stronger. Sometimes I
wondered if I just didn’t like the dark, but I believed her nonetheless. She had a reason to say that, of course. The night I was born was a night when the lesser
moon shifted in front of the greater- an ‘eclipse’ as your average Eorzean might call it. To
anyone else, this might seem just a strange coincidence, but to our tribe it was both a blessing
and an omen. As is common with most Keepers, our sole worship belonged to Menphina,
keeper of the twin moons. Dalamud, then, was her loyal hound- an arbiter of change. To be
born under this confluence was a prophecy - such a child would spell a significant change for
the family. One can imagine how wary that made my fellow tribemates of me.It was that night that their fears were proven. After I had finally calmed the racing of my
thoughts and laid down to bed- a deep feeling of dread washed over me. It was only then that I
looked up to see three figures hovering over me. Their faces were obscured by wooden masks,
and their entire bodies were draped in crimson robes. One of them spoke, using the dialect of
my tribe, but using a voice that I did not recognize. “Chosen of the Hound- it is time to fulfill
your true purpose. Do not resist His will.” His voice slithered out like the hiss of a serpent, and
those words rang in my head so loudly I could barely think. Before I could regain my sense, the
other two had already grabbed my arms and dragged me up to standing. What happened after
that moment is hazy- my mind was still overwhelmed by a strange force that hung on the
figure’s words. I remember two things, however: my mother being restrained by three other
crimson-hooded figures… and my father laying motionless out in the snow, his blood soaking
the axe buried in his chest. That was seven years ago. Seven years since the Lambs took me. Seven years… seven years
of twisted rituals, indoctrination, and painful experiments. Over those seven years a lot has
changed. My body has been altered, pulled and twisted and sculpted by the prayers of those
fanatics. My mind rings with whispers of a God I refuse to give piety. One thing kept me sane,
kept me still myself- I believed that Menphina would never abandon me. The great keeper of
the moons, lover of all, would deliver me from the hell I lived. It was tonight that those fervent
prayers, those desperate cries, those… frankly foolish beliefs… were answered. The Lover
showed her face to me… spoke to me…gave me strength to tear my way from the cell I was
kept using the powers they forced on me. I killed them all. I’m free. When I tasted the moon’s glow for the first time in years… it hurt. I am not the keeper I was
seven years ago. My body burned with an energy that at once felt distant from Her- yet
congruent with Her will. Dalamud was shattered, blasted from the sky by a foul beast, and
yet… and yet I still felt his presence. I can still see the shards of the lesser moon falling from
the sky. That isn’t him. The red moon was a falsehood, yet the Hound is real. What does that
mean? I can’t bear to think about it… all I can do is run.She said something to me in that moment, the Lover’s voice calling to me in the darkness of
my cell. Something that burns in my ears despite its… almost vain pursuit. “Learn the passions
of others, and follow your own to a brighter tomorrow.” This is a central teaching to us… but
how? How can I pursue that after what they did to me? How can I live such a … normal life
with the gnawing whispers in my mind and the twisted form I now reside in? I feel the moon’s
phases in my very being- my body and emotions reflect its nature. I have to know. I have to
learn what they did to me. I have to learn what they … did to my mother. I am sorry, my guiding
moonlight. Once I find the truth, I will live as you wish me to.

Hi there! I'm Charip (25, he/they), and I've been playing FFXIV since about March of 2023. I fell in love with this game and it's world almost instantly, and it's been a joy to get to know so many people! XIV has been where I really discovered I love character writing and roleplay, so the character you just met someone I tried to put a lot of thought into!
I also do lots of content in this game! If you're looking for someone to run dungeons with or sub in for a raid team, I'm down to help if I have the time! I will also threaten to drag you into UWU, get used to this.
I don't have a very set schedule since I work variable hours which can include overnights. If I'm on, I'm on. Please don't bug me to be online when I'm not, it's probably for a reason. My other characters are Meira (pictured above) as well as Noriko and Sura'ra. Feel free to check out their carrds here!
Have a wonderful day, and thanks for reading! Hope to see you out there in the realm!
